SM&W is seeking a Junior Consultant, Infrastructure Designer-Engineer to join our Washington DC Office

SM&W DC seeks Junior Consultant, Infrastructure Designer-Engineer with 0-3 years of experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting Project Managers in the design and specification of voice, data, and video and network infrastructure for technology projects. Should demonstrate a proven ability to assist with infrastructure design capabilities which include all phases from Conceptual/Schematic Design through Construction Documents. Projects are vast and include multiple vertical markets including education, healthcare, government, commercial and hospitality and will vary from new construction as well as retrofits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the project manager in performing site surveys to develop client design requirements, documentation and cost estimating of new or existing systems and building conditions.
• Coordinate physical infrastructure system layout and as-built designs with internal and/or external partner teams.
• Review, evaluate and update site drawings and product submittals as well as preparing technical specifications for installation methods
• Will work with a team of technologist and other production staff on projects.
• Discipline coordination, specification writing and shop drawings and product submittals and responding to RFi’s.
• CAD/BIM drafting, field work, product research, responding to client questions and reviewing submittals.
• Field work and product research
• 10-15% domestic and international travel may be required

Skills and Qualifications:

• 0-3 years’ experience
• 4-year Engineering degree
• Understanding of the architectural and engineering design and integration process.
• Knowledge of telecommunications cabling and infrastructure design and implementation.
• Knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, IEEE and TIA
• Knowledge of industry standard equipment manufacturers including Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Extreme, Avaya
• Familiarity of Schematic Design reports, Design Development documentation and Construction Documentation
• Excellent writing, listening and verbal communications skills, with a strong commitment to learning.
• Must be proactive and have excellent time management skills and capable of working independently.
• Conscientious and flexible, with a strong work ethic and team-player attitude in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work well under strict deadlines, interface effectively with management, handle multiple requests with an eye for detail and a strong commitment to quality
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite; proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD a plus.
• General knowledge of digital media delivery technologies, AV systems
