Senior Security Associate Design Engineer

SM&W’s Senior Security Associates are responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of traditional and emerging physical security technology and advanced systems for the most prestigious clients in the world. The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of IT, Audiovisual, Medical Equipment Planners, and Acoustical engineers to provide innovative solutions possible within the client’s project constraints. The candidate must have a thorough working understanding and documented experience to work within highly integrated digital environments of audiovisual and data systems. The preferred candidate will prepare security designs in support of a broad base of project opportunities. Additional working knowledge of network design is a plus. This position will include client-facing requirements and the ability to converse with technical and nontechnical client representatives to develop project deliverables.

Hand-in-glove technical skills go beyond the requirements for project management. At SM&W, project management readily encompasses opportunities for not just a single discipline but all our disciplines. Our Seniors staff are more than encouraged to become involved in multidiscipline management. A high-level understanding of the other disciplines is encouraged for attending meetings while representing your core discipline as well as representing the other disciplines engaged in the project.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project responsibility through all phases of design and coordination, from budgets to conceptual/schematic design through construction documents.
  • Review, evaluate, and update drawings and product submittals and prepare technical specifications for installation methods and components.
  • Coordinate physical infrastructure system layout and as-built designs with internal and/or external partner teams.
  • Manage client relationships, project team coordination, and design team project management.
  • Work with a team of technical staff and provide mentorship to aid in their growth and development.
  • Play an integral role in the systems implementation process, acting as the primary point of contact between the systems integrator, the project team, and the client to ensure a successful implementation of design.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of industry standards, methodologies, processes, and best practices and their impact on the project and operational goals.
  • Provide disciplinary guidance and support between the SM&W ICT groups, Medical Equipment Planning, and Acoustical teams to yield unified design concepts and functional systems.
  • Coordinate physical infrastructure system layout and as-built designs with internal and/or external partner teams.
  • Serve as a global resource for the firm where your specialties are required.
  • Assist in the preparation of marketing materials and presentations, cultivating active and potential client relationships and business development.
  • 5-10% domestic and international travel may be required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience
  • 4-year Engineering degree or equivalent experience required
  • Excellent writing, listening, and verbal communications skills, with a strong commitment to continuous learning and team collaboration
  • Strong knowledge of architectural drawing, technology, audio, video, data, and control system designs
  • Must be proactive with excellent time management skills and be capable of working independently as well as leading a project team
  • Conscientious and flexible, with a strong work ethic and team-leader attitude in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work well under strict deadlines, interface effectively with management, and handle multiple requests
  • Functional knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM, and Bluebeam applications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite/Office 365
  • General knowledge of Information Technologies (IT) services and digital media delivery technologies, network hardware, infrastructure, and systems architecture such as IP, WAN, LAN Routers Switchers
  • Proven record of developing systems design using emerging technologies
  • Project Management Certifications are a plus

  • American Society for Industrial Security International
  • CPP (Certified Protection Professional)
  • PSP (Physical Security Professional)
  • IAPSC (International Association of Professional Security Consultants)

Annual Salary Range:

Between $110,000 and $140,000. Dependent on experience and region.
