SM&W Contribution

One of the first Net Zero Energy buildings in the nation and certified LEED Platinum Certified, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation Headquarters included private offices, workstations, meeting rooms, conference rooms and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces.

Utilizing innovative approaches that integrate the system design, we created a building-wide audiovisual, IT and security system that drew less power from the building than conventional systems of the same size and magnitude. Our design included an integrated IT infrastructure system for audiovisual, data, security and voice that connected to the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system, building automation, irrigation, indoor and outdoor lighting systems and the foundation’s scheduling system.  This approach enabled all systems to communicate with each other, enhancing the management of the building and lowering the environmental footprint.

We coordinated with equipment manufacturers to create an audiovisual system that communicated seamlessly with the occupancy sensors, shade and lighting controls and scheduling system. This ensured that the systems were on when needed and off when not, lowering standby power draw and the power the building needed to generate.
