Xcel Energy Tower

SM&W Contribution

The Xcel Energy tower was the largest high-rise office building to be constructed in Denver’s business district in twenty years and the first building in Colorado to be awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Shen Milsom & Wilke was responsible for peer reviews, oversight recommendations, specifications and assurance of future provisioning for each discipline. The audiovisual team installed an electronic, frequency-contoured, sound-masking system for approximately 143,500 square feet of office space.

Our IT team managed system installation, startup, testing, balancing, operation and maintenance manuals and operator training. The infrastructure allowed integration of local- and wide-area networks (LAN/WAN) as well as internet-protocol and analog voice. They integrated their design with existing network infrastructure and provided future growth and adaptation capabilities.

The security design included an access-control system, door alarms, panic buttons and video surveillance with a recording system that can be monitored from key areas of the building. The design provided controlled access throughout the building without compromising the architectural and interior design of the space.
