Shen Milsom & Wilke (SM&W) provided acoustical consulting expertise for the Baccarat Hotels & Residences located in New York, NY. Baccarat Hotel & Residences is a one of a kind 50-story luxury mixed hotel and residential building located on 53rd Street, directly across from the Museum of Modern Art. Designed by renowned architects SOM and award-winning interior designer Tony Ingrao, this building includes 114 hotel rooms and 60 residences ranging from 1-br to 5-br including stunning duplex penthouses. Among the amenities that hotel guests and residents can enjoy are a full-service spa, pool, and highly acclaimed five-star French restaurant, Chevalier. All areas of the building incorporate Baccarat crystal into the motif, for a classic French elegance.
SM&W provided acoustical consulting services for the project, including sound separation between adjacent residences and hotel rooms, mechanical noise and vibration control, and interior acoustic treatment to create a warm, welcoming environment. Notable highlights include a structurally isolated emergency generator room, custom window mullion trim caps for sound control, and acoustically rated exterior window glass. In addition, the lower levels of the building were shared with the NYPL Donnell Library, so maintaining acoustic separation between the hotel areas and public areas was also addressed. SM&W’s expertise help to ensure all areas of the building were successfully designed with acoustics in mind.
