SM&W Contribution

Shen Milsom & Wilke provided audiovisual consulting expertise for the Blue Cross Arena Upgrades project in Rochester, New York. The Blue Cross Arena, also known as the War Memorial, is a multi-purpose indoor arena with over 11,000 seats.

SM&W was hired to advise on the renovation of the broadcast control room, operations booth and signal distribution. SM&W also consulted on the upgrading of the sound system to address issues with variations in sound pressure level (SPL) throughout the audience area to improve the overall experience for the fans. SM&W coordinated closely with the architect, the system integrator, the local electrician and the arena operations team to achieve the best possible results. SM&W performed final acceptance of the system and advised on gain staging adjustments to achieve the best possible system performance for speech and program sources.

The construction administration phase was completed during COVID lock-down. The final in-person acceptance was completed in 1.5 days, with only a handful of punch list items, demonstrating SM&W’s ability to effectively manage the CA phase remotely.
