SM&W Contribution

Shen Milsom & Wilke provided acoustical, audiovisual, IT infrastructure, IT systems, and security consulting expertise for the new campus center and associated McGinley Hall renovations for Fordham University’s Rose Hill campus in the Bronx, New York. The project was completed in mid-2022.

The campus center aims to re-establish a sense of togetherness for the Fordham community as students, faculty, staff, visitors, and guests alike return to campus after virtual learning became the norm during Covid-19. This home for the campus provides opportunities for individual studying and events alike.

The design team was challenged to come up with technological solutions that meet the needs of the University, while remaining hidden as to not distract from the desired look of the space. SM&W’s acoustics team was tasked with creating sound solutions to mitigate acoustics issues that arise with hard surfaces, glass, and open areas.

SM&W overcame these challenges and met Fordham’s vision for a communal space that is both beautiful and functional by collaborating from the beginning. The success of this campus center is proof that technology and aesthetics do not have to conflict. With proper planning from the very beginning, they can co-exist quite harmoniously.
