SM&W Contribution

On land that was reclaimed in 2005, One Shenzhen Bay is located in the newly created neighbourhood of Houhai, across Shenzhen Bay from the Futian District, the central business area in Shenzhen.  As a mixed-used project, the development will include offices, residential, hotel and retail facilities. The new urban environment will be certified as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council upon its completion in 2018.

The planning and design emphasize the relationship between and duality of the natural landscape and urban context.  Retail and public spaces will surround the site, while the towers will contain offices and service apartments.  Three storeys of retail, food and beverage will open to terraces that face the inner lake.  At its centre will stand a 340-metre headquarters hotel tower, acting as an iconic building for the first world-class landmark project at Shenzhen Bay.

The strong connection between natural and urban elements necessitates a sustainable design approach. Using materials produced or manufactured in southern China, transportation will reduce the environmental impact. Other sustainable approaches include energy-efficient glass as the main cladding material, a rainwater collection system and green roofs.
