SM&W Contribution

The Institute for Medical Simulation and Advanced Learning (IMSAL), was the first of its kind among the nation’s public hospitals.  Within the facility hands-on simulation and training will be provided in an effort to improve clinical learning, patient care, and patient safety. The facility will occupy approximately 10,000 square feet at the Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. Emergency rooms, operating rooms, and other patient care settings have been designed as part of the facility interior to effectively simulate real-life scenarios.

Shen Milsom & Wilke provided the audiovisual consulting for this project. Throughout the project, SM&W has worked with the audiovisual integrator, design team, and end users to define the audiovisual systems. During these programming services, the features of the technology are clearly laid out to the end users in order to facilitate an early understanding of the functionality. The complexity and unique nature of simulation facilities pre-empts the use of generic equipment. In response to this, SM&W has defined the equipment and infrastructure that the facility would require. This design was then coordinated with a sole-sourced audiovisual contractor that specializes in simulation centers.
