SM&W Contribution
Shen Milsom & Wilke (SM&W) provided IT Infrastructure consulting expertise for the Gilder Center addition at the American Museum of Natural History. Completed in 2023, the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation was designed to spark curiosity and foster scientific interest through its unique “shotcrete” architecture and immersive exhibits. These exhibitions include an insectarium, a butterfly vivarium, and the Invisible Worlds immersive experience.
SM&W’s IT team designed a robust and redundant network backbone along with a coordinated pathway system. This system supported the needs of both the Museum’s internal IT team and the audiovisual integration.
The Gilder Center had to be integrated into the existing campus of the American Museum of Natural History without disrupting the museum’s network or services. We successfully achieved this integration through close coordination among multiple parties, including SM&W, the design team, the museum’s IT team, the low-voltage contractor, the electrical contractor, and the general contractor.
