SM&W Contribution

Shen Milsom & Wilke (SM&W) served as part of an established team of consultants for the relocation of this confidential client’s office, building on previous collaborative successes. The project included the design and coordination of 76 meeting spaces. Several of these rooms were high-profile client-facing spaces, requiring precise integration of table microphones with bespoke furniture. The design spanned a complex, mixed-history building. Client rooms were situated in a listed Jacobean structure, which presented unique challenges due to heritage design limitations. The remainder of the meeting rooms were located in a more modern section of the building, which introduced technical hurdles such as narrow floor voids, lower-than-standard ceiling heights, and a range of site-specific constraints. These conditions demanded extensive coordination with the design team, architects, general contractors, and the appointed AV integrator to ensure full systems integration.

As part of this project, SM&W worked closely with the client to review, refine, and update their global AV standards, marking a significant evolution in their approach to meeting room technology. A major focus was the introduction of Lightware Taurus UCX devices as a core component of a new Bring Your Own Meeting (BYOM) architecture. Designed by SM&W nearly two years prior to the product’s commercial release, this implementation demonstrated not only a high level of manufacturer coordination but also SM&W’s deep visibility into product roadmaps and emerging technologies. The solution enabled seamless switching between in-room endpoints and user-supplied laptops, allowing flexible, intuitive workflows without compromising reliability or user experience. In addition to the meeting rooms, the office includes a 180+ seat lecture theatre outfitted with a 5-meter-wide 16:9 LED video wall using 1.2mm LED panels. Acoustic challenges in the theatre space called for a premium sound solution—Holoplot speaker arrays were selected to ensure a controlled audio production solution, that wouldn’t amplify issues with the spaces acoustics. Sightlines, camera placements, and other system elements were carefully designed around ongoing construction constraints, requiring constant design iteration and coordination to successfully deliver the final system. The end result is an office which showcase the spear head of current technology trends within the corporate meeting room vertical, which is easily supportable by the client’s engineers and provides a seamless User experience.
