SM&W Contribution

The first new resort in Atlantic City in over a decade, the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa is now the city’s top-grossing casino. The resort encompasses 30 acres and the building includes 120,000 square feet of gaming space as well as 2,002 guest rooms and suites, an event center, a 1,000-seat performance theater, a spa, restaurants, retail stores and a nightclub.

Shen Milsom & Wilke acousticians designed noise and vibration control requirements for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Our acoustical design for the gaming space controls excessive reverberation, allowing an active and lively ambiance.

Because the data network plays a vital role in mass information flow and daily operations, our IT design included bandwidth management, scalability and redundancy. We provided a fault-tolerant data network to support mission-critical systems, including gaming operations, hotel registration, point-of-sale procedures, digital signage and administrative, back-of-house applications. The networked gaming applications are transported over an SM&W-designed IP-network. The design included cellular-deck and in-slab pathways under the gaming floor to support unobstructed open spaces for gaming tables, pit stands, slots and coin redemption areas. We also planned an applications-independent cabling system that allows maximum flexibility and reconfiguration capabilities.
