Shen Milsom & Wilke (SM&W) provided audiovisual, IT infrastructure, & security consulting services for the new Fox Elementary School located in Richmond, VA. This project involved the partial reconstruction and full renovation of approximately 58,260 SF of an elementary school that was severely damaged by a fire in February 2022. The work included rebuilding damaged areas, replacing all interior systems, and restoring the building envelope to its pre-fire condition. The project delivers a fully restored, modernized, and safe learning environment for students and staff.
Our team delivered turnkey telecommunications, audiovisual, and electronic security solutions. Telecom cabling is routed within a custom architectural shelf: a concealed, tray-like ledge that blends seamlessly with restored plaster walls and ornamental cornices, preserving sightlines without sacrificing capacity. For security, students, staff, and visitors now benefit from networked access control, intrusion detection, high-definition video surveillance, and IP intercom stations that manage entry with a single button.
Every classroom features an interactive short-throw projector, teacher-station connectivity, and ceiling-mounted speakers that distribute clear audio without visual clutter. In the gymnatorium, a motorized projector and retractable screen descend for performances or assemblies, then tuck safely away for daily physical-education use, maintaining flexibility and heritage aesthetics for generations ahead.
