SM&W provided acoustics and audiovisual expertise for the new Center for Health Professionals building at the Community College of Baltimore (CCBC). The 120,000-square-foot, four story building is named after Carol D. Eustis, the longtime Dean of the School of Health Professionals. The building provides labs, classrooms and offices for the Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Imaging, Radiation Therapy, Emergency Medical Technology, Physician Assistant, Massage Therapy, and Medical Laboratory Testing programs at CCBC’s Essex campus. Specialty spaces include patient simulation labs, a home environment simulation lab, debriefing spaces, an academic conference center, and simulated exam and hospital rooms.
Our audiovisual scope included both infrastructure and AV systems design. This included the design of the infrastructure to support the latest technology for mannequin-based simulation systems and infrastructure for multiple simulation systems.
Acoustics are key in any teaching environment, but more so in spaces that are simulated medical rooms. Careful design was necessary from our acousticians to ensure acoustic privacy was attained to meet medical requirements. Additionally, SM&W paid close attention of the room acoustics with the use of recording technologies and playback in these specialty spaces.
The Carol D. Eustis Center for Health Professionals opened its doors Fall of 2020.
