University of California, Santa Cruz Library

SM&W Contribution

Shen Milsom & Wilke provided consulting expertise in the renovation and updating of the University of California at Santa Cruz Library. The building stands 3 stories high with each floor covering about 25,000 square feet. Our services were required on the interior and exterior of the building. Work was required on the lower level to make it so the structure was not embedded into a slope, and on the 2nd floor entrances to make them more accessible.

This project also involved renovation and upgrades inside the existing Science & Engineer Wing. SM&W assisted the team in documenting existing acoustic performance inside the main library area and recommend improvements within the scope of the renovation. The primary focus of this effort was the interior finishes for reverberation control, and background noise from the HVAC systems. Additional acoustic measurements were performed after the renovation was complete to document the improvement.
