Shen Milsom & Wilke provided acoustical consulting expertise for the Trump International Hotel. Located in the historic Old Post Office building off of Pennsylvania Avenue, the hotel has views of the Capitol and surrounding D.C. landmarks. The renovation created 263 guest rooms, 35 suites, and 3 Presidential-level suites. In addition to its accommodations, the hotel includes a grand lobby highlighted throughout with gold tones, crystal chandeliers, and hand-woven rugs. The focus of the historical renovation was to redevelop and transform the Old Post Office Building into a revival-era building that links the Capitol and the White House. The new hotel will maintain the Old Post Office’s Clock Tower as an observation deck in order to satisfy its historical preservation goals.
As part of SM&W’s services, an acoustical survey was performed for the entire building. This survey measured the impact of traffic noise on the interior of the building, the acoustical separation provided by the historical partitions, and the overall reverberation time in the main lobby area. This information was then used throughout the design process to determine appropriate design strategies in efforts to improve acoustics where necessary in order to provide guests with a five-star experience.
